The debut self-titled mini album from Next Week’s Washing arrives as a hazy snapshot of modern Toronto: concrete, neon, late nights and half-remembered melodies drifting between tower blocks. Built on the soft-focus swirl of shoegaze and the sharp-lined immediacy of classic Britpop, these songs balance romance and restlessness in equal measure.
Walls of reverb blur into chiming guitar hooks; introspective verses snap into choruses that feel made for shouted singalongs in small rooms. There’s a distinctly urban tension running through the tape – the sense of a band shaped by streetcar rides, basement shows and the constant hum of the city – giving the music a grit that offsets its dreamier moments.
