This Is the First Edition

On 20th February, Next Week’s Washing will be released on limited edition cassette, capturing the first tangible statement from a band operating at the intersection of sound, place, and intent. Comprising six tracks, the mini album functions as both a debut and a document - not simply a collection of songs, but an artefact marking the moment where atmosphere, influence, and lived experience briefly align.

Next Week's Washing cassette cover

Sonically, Next Week’s Washing draws from the blurred guitars and emotional density of shoegaze, the melodic directness and pop intelligence of Britpop, and refracts them through the specific conditions of Toronto. This is music shaped by winter streets, late-night transit, concrete, glass, and overheard conversations - expansive yet intimate, restless but grounded. Familiar reference points are present, but never indulged; instead they are reassembled into something distinctly local, contemporary, and self-possessed.

The cassette format is a deliberate choice. In an era of frictionless listening, this release insists on weight, scarcity, and attention. Each copy comes with a free Next Week’s Washing logo fridge magnet - a small act of Situationist détournement, relocating the band’s identity into the everyday architecture of the home. The album becomes not just something you hear, but something that quietly occupies space.

This is a strictly limited run, priced at £9, available from this website, as well as directly from the band at gigs and via their Bandcamp. Once sold out, it will not be repressed in this form. No upgrades, no expanded editions - just a finite object marking the band’s first public footprint.

To own Next Week’s Washing on cassette is to participate in the beginning rather than the retrospective. A chance to hold a first edition, to claim proximity to the origin point. Not nostalgia - but presence.
